Programs

Onsite Training… May include programs such as: job readiness skills, life skills development, as well as pre-vocational and vocational skill development through the onsite business(es). Onsite businesses offer training in work related skills including product assembly, catering, printing, recycling,  woodworking and more. The continuum of skills taught in these programs range from personal hygiene, hand-eye coordination, basic literacy, teamwork, time management, customer service and, communication.

Off-Site Placement… Several agencies have community based businesses. In this environment clients are able to interact with members of the general public to expand on existing skills and develop new ones. Such placements allow clients to gain workplace experience before exploring community employment, while learning more about the expectations of employers.   

Broadened Day Option… An alternative to paid employment for clients preferring to participate in non-vocational programs. Clients can participate in activities that are recreational or  educational. This may also include volunteering in the community or attendance at therapeutic programs.

Community Employment… Individuals are supported to attain and maintain employment in the community. Job coaches assist participants in finding employment in the competitive marketplace at an equitable wage. Job coaches also provide ongoing support.

School to Work & Community Transition... Vocational agencies are committed to working with schools and community partners in transition planning for students. This process helps to ensure students experience following high school is positive. Planning should begin several years before the student is expected to graduate.

Admissions... Processes and criteria may vary somewhat from agency to agency. Generally, agencies accept adults who have reached a minimum age of 19-21 years and have a diagnosis of a mental, physical or intellectual disability. Agencies strive to provide services which are suited to the needs of each individual.

Waitlists… Admission to an agency is not instantaneous. Length of wait times may vary depending on program openings.
